Introducing Kim Kiunke...

Serfas has recently hired a new Accounts Receivable Manager, Kim Kiunke (pronounced "key- yoon-key"). Kim grew up in Los Angeles but has spent some time living in Boulder, Colorado. No stranger to the bike - Kim started racing Cross Country and Cyclo Cross in the 90's and started Crit racing in 2006. A self proclaimed "food nerd" Kim enjoys cooking, spending time with her husband and son, riding, and a nice frosty brew. That's right... Kim loves BEER. I'm not talking about your PBR, BL Smoothie, Silver Bullet crap. Kim enjoys learning, tasting, critiquing, and writing about good quality microbrews. Serfas Optics represented on Antarctica

McMurdo Station is an American Antarctic research center located on the southern tip of Ross Island on the shore of McMurdo Sound in Antarctica. It is operated by the United States through the United States Antarctic Program, a branch of the National Science Foundation. The station is the largest community in Antarctica, capable of supporting up to 1,258 residents, and serves as the U.S.' Antarctic science facility, and the logistics base for half the continent.

Today, McMurdo Station is Antarctica's largest community and a functional, modern day science station, which includes a harbour, 3 airfields (2 seasonal), a heliport and over 100 buildings, including the Albert P. Crary Science and Engineering Center and a bowling alley with an antique Brunswick manual pinset machine. There is even a 9-hole disc golf course on site. The station is also home to the continent's only ATM, provided by Wells Fargo Bank. The primary focus of the work done at McMurdo Station is science, but most of the residents (approximately 1,000 in the summer and fewer than 200 in the winter) are not scientists, but station personnel who are there to provide support for operations, logistics, information technology, construction, and maintenance.
Scientists and station personnel at McMurdo are participants in the USAP, which co-ordinates research and operational support in the region. Aside from Werner Herzog's 2007 documentary Encounters at the End of the World, reports on the life and culture of McMurdo Station from the point of view of residents are rare.

New Vistoso Saddle - First Impressions...

Got a chance to ride the new Serfas "Vistoso" saddle today. Vistoso (prononuced Viss - toe - soe) means beautiful, eye catching, delightful, and spectacular. This saddle certainly lives up to that standard. I like the graphics displayed on the Vistoso and it looks amazing on the bike. I put about 20 miles on it this morning and here are my first impressions.

Pros:

-Visually appealing - looks great, cool graphics, nice design

-Lightweight - Only 260 grams

-Performance driven design

-Value - MSRP $55 for a saddle like this - amazing value.

Cons:

-A bit firm for my taste. Strictly a personal preference, but if you are a looking for a firm - performance oriented saddle- the Vistoso is for you.

Overall first impression - the Vistoso saddle is a fantastic, value oriented performance perch that delivers a lot of what you want, but wont break the bank. Compared to saddles of similar characteristics and quality that retail for $100+ and I think you'll agree, the Vistoso is a winner.

We're back...

Serfas is back in action and excited for the 2010 season.

While we were on our annual holiday break, I got an email from my uncle that lives in Santa Barbra. He and my cousin were riding up Gibralter road in Santa Barbra on 12/21 when they came across an entourage of riders. Guess who it was?
